围绕大脑的脑膜细胞积极参与中枢神经系统的正常发育。它们在以下方面起着重要作用，例如稳定软膜表面细胞外基质、组织放射状胶质细胞网络和小脑皮层迭片结构。在个体发育过程中对脑膜细胞选择性的药理伤害导致大脑皮质和齿状回畸形。脑膜细胞的移植物来源于覆盖在大脑皮层上的脑膜，成年大鼠脊髓伤害促进轴索再生。体外研究表明脑膜细胞定向趋化未成熟的神经细胞，但对神经胶质细胞没有此作用。
大鼠脑膜细胞（RMC）提取于新生大鼠脑脊膜，原代冻存。每管含有细胞数>5×105cells/ml，此细胞通过对Fibronectin、Alpha-SMA、Thy1.1和GFAP（-）的免疫荧光染色验证，经测试不含有支原体、细菌、酵母和真菌。细胞可以达到15倍增。

RMCfromScienCellResearchLaboratoriesareisolatedfromratleptomeningi.RMCarecryopreservedatpassageoneculturesａnddeliveredfrozen.Eachvialcontains>5x105cellsin1mlvolume.RMCarecharacterizedbyimmunofluorescentmethodwithantibodiestofibronectinａndnegativetoGFAP,alpha-smoothmuscleactinａndThy1.1.RMCarenegativeformycoplasma,bacteria,yeastａndfungi.RMCareguaranteedtofurtherexpandfor15populationdoublingsintheconditionsspecifiedbyScienCellResearchLaboratories.
